COMPUTEX Taipei (Taipei International Information Technology Show), organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Taipei Computer Association (TCA), is the second largest ICT industry trade show in the world ahead of COMDEX and behind of CeBIT. It's formerly well known as Taipei Computer Show before entitling its name as COMPUTEX officially in 1984 by Stan Shih, founder of Acer Incorporated.
After the opening of Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC), the COMPUTEX moved from TAITRA Exhibition Center at Taipei Songshan Airport to the current TWTC in 1986 until the presence. With expansions of its scale and launches of new exhibition halls, it became the 2nd largest global ICT show in 2003 after enrolling TWTC Hall 3 as one of its show venues since it had been the 1st one in Asia. In 2008, the COMPUTEX stood steadily in the global ICT procurement center as it expanded into TWTC Nangang, launched on March 13, 2008 (the Opening Day of Taipei Cycle).
[edit] Backgrounds
In 1982, the TCA initiated the Taipei Computer Show to provide opportunities for local ICT companies showcasing trendy products to international businesspeople. After two years in 1984, Stan Shih, while he was the Chairman of TCA, decided to entitle the Taipei Computer Show officially as COMPUTEX.
While the start of 1990s, the ICT industry in Taiwan grew up progressively, the COMPUTEX ever became the 3rd largest ICT show in the world as TAITRA and TCA ever reused TAITRA Exhibition Center at Taipei Songshan Airport in 1989 & 1990.
After expanding to successively-launched venues including Taipei International Convention Center, TWTC Hall 2 & 3, and COMDEX was progressively weakening in 2001 & 2002, COMPUTEX replaced COMDEX as the world's 2nd largest ICT show behind CeBIT until the presence.
During the show hours, ICT giants will hold several events for IPOs, technicians, analyzers, and press as focuses of COMPUTEX. Furthermore, some companies will book (lease) showgrounds and hotel rooms outside of official venues for self-promotions.
